DIY Advent Calendar for Holiday Countdown

It's December!

I love a good DIY project. I love it even more if it's easy, and cost effective!

Every year since my oldest son was 4, I have made my own advent calendar. It started when he kept asking me when Christmas is, and I made him a little cardboard Christmas tree where he would glue a pom pom everyday to countdown. It was easy, and perfect activity for his age.

Since then, I have made something different every year depending on their age and interest.  They love it, I love it. They look forward to it. They ask for it. Every year there is a different theme, from daily Christmas riddles and jokes to holiday themed Minute to Win Games.

It doesn't have to be complicated. So here's a super idea to make your own inexpensive advent calendar to countdown to Christmas! A mindful calendar.

Take a big poster board (I bought mine from Dollarama). Find some cute envelopes. Here, I have done a 12 day countdown. So all you need is 12 envelopes, and you can put an affirmation card in each envelope.

Now, start the day with the kids opening it for daily affirmations, say it out loud together until Christmas!
